Senate Probes Trump-Linked Crypto Ventures Over Ethics Violations
The U.S. Senate has initiated an investigation into cryptocurrency projects associated with former President Donald Trump, citing potential conflicts of interest and possible breaches of federal ethics laws. The probe centers on two entities: the Official Trump (TRUMP) meme coin and World Liberty Financial (WLFI), a financial initiative supported by Trump allies.
Senator Richard Blumenthal’s Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations dispatched letters to Fight Fight Fight LLC’s Bill Zanker, issuer of the TRUMP token, and WLFI co-founder Zach Witkoff on May 6. The inquiry seeks to determine whether these ventures improperly benefited foreign interests or violated government ethics regulations during Trump’s administration.
This development occurs as regulators increasingly scrutinize political figures’ involvement in cryptocurrency ventures. The TRUMP token’s connection to a sitting president’s likeness raises unprecedented questions about the intersection of digital assets and governmental ethics standards.
